Becoming a Certified Fraud Examiner

Certified Fraud Examiners must demonstrate professional skills in the areas of fraud detection or deterrence.

The rigorous CFE Exam assesses the candidate's expert knowledge in four areas:

 

All Certified Fraud Examiners must exemplify the highest moral and ethical standards and must agree to adhere to the Certified Fraud Examiner Code of Professional Ethics. Certified Fraud Examiners are also required to acquire at least 20 hours of continuing professional education per year, with at least 10 hours related to fraud and two hours related to ethics.

 

The requirements to become a Certified Fraud Examiner are set by the ACFE Board of Regents, who are elected by CFEs. All requirements are subject to change.
